Job Purpose :
English lecturers are for responsible for delivering English language courses, contributing to curriculum development, and ensuring high standards of teaching and assessment within the General Foundation Programme (GFP). The role involves balancing teaching, and quality assurance responsibilities while supporting institutional accreditation requirements.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Teaching Excellence & Academic Leadership
- Deliver full English language courses independently, ensuring alignment with GFP and OQF standards.
- Integrate technology and blended learning approaches.
- Contribute to teaching enhancement initiatives.
- Participate in departmental meetings and committees and contribute to the Teaching and Learning Plan.
- Teach according to the syllabus and learning outcomes set by the institution and Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA) standards.
- Curriculum Development & Programme Enhancement
- Lead curriculum design, review, enhancement, and alignment of foundation year English Contribute to curriculum development and review by providing feedback on course content and learning outcomes.
- Develop and update teaching materials to reflect curriculum changes.
- Suggest improvements based on classroom experience and student performance data.
- Participate in programme enhancement initiatives by implementing blended learning and innovative practices.
- Assist in curriculum mapping exercises to ensure consistency and progression.
- Participate in internal/external moderation to maintain consistency and reliability of grading.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and assessment data for audits and accreditation.
- Attend workshops and training on pedagogy, assessment, and QA processes.
- Assessment Design & Implementation
- Design and implement assessments (quizzes, assignments, exams) for all courses taught independently, ensuring alignment with approved learning outcomes.
- Contribute to the item bank by creating new validated questions per semester.
- Grade student work using approved rubrics and ensure fairness and consistency.
- Prepare rubrics for assignments and projects and apply them consistently.
- Participate in moderation to maintain assessment standards across courses.
- Analyze student performance data after each assessment cycle and recommend improvements.
- Grade assessments within the institutional turnaround time (e.g., 7 working days) and provide constructive feedback.
- Upload all grades and feedback to LMS within the required timeframe.
- Implement technology-based assessments and troubleshoot LMS-related issues during exams.
- Act as invigilators during exams and ensure compliance with assessment protocols.
- Student Support & Engagement
- Hold regular office hours and provide targeted academic advising and student mentoring on academic writing, language skills, and study strategies
- Collaborate with senior faculty to implement engagement initiatives and support programmes.
- Use LMS tools/analytics to monitor participation and performance; identify at‑risk learners and implement support plans
- Coordinate tutorials and small-group support aligned with course outcomes; refer students to academic support services as needed.

| Qualification, Experience and Skills | |
| Education/ Professional Qualification | · Master’s degree in TESOL/Applied Linguistics/English or closely related field or a closely related discipline.
· Minimum 3–5 years with demonstrated leadership or coordination responsibilities (foundation, pre-university, or early undergraduate level). · Minimum 3–5 years IELTS teaching experience · Minimum IELTS score of 7.0 (or equivalent English language proficiency). |
