The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) was established in Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman in 2007 in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University. GUtech aims to become a leading university of technology in the wider region by building on the three pillars of education, research, and innovation. Through its affiliation with RWTH Aachen University, GUtech provides students with a high-quality education and socially responsible graduates, guided by German excellence and with a firm grounding in Oman’s culture and heritage. GUtech’s programs of study are accredited by the German agency ACQUIN, and the University has recently undergone a successful evaluation by the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD. GUtech faculty members also engage in research projects, locally, in cooperation with RWTH Aachen University, and other universities abroad.

The Faculty of Business and Economics at GUtech currently offers B.Sc. programs in “International Business and Service Management” and “Logistics”, and Master of Business Administration (MBA), and plans to further expand in this direction. The faculty is looking for collaborative candidates with demonstrated evidence of effective teaching and research in Logistics and Supply chain Management. Courses to be taught include quantitative methods and Operations Management (e.g., Procurement, Production logistics, Distribution, Transportation Logistics, Optimization and simulation techniques, Factory planning, etc.). The position is available at the Assistant/Associate Professor level and will commence in February 2025.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring high levels of student achievement and satisfaction in under-graduate and post-graduate courses, as well as in thesis supervision.
  • Delivering well-prepared-lectures, tutorials and other forms of interactions with students, which demonstrate cultural awareness and corresponding pedagogy.
  • Implementing student-centered approaches to learning and reflective practices in teaching.
  • Providing academic support to students who need them with individualized plans.
  • Strengthening the nexus between teaching, research, and industry.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Contributing to the development of research and consultancy projects aligned with the University’s mission and strategy.
  • Building research capacity by training and co-supervising young researchers.
  • Participation in collaborative work with other universities, in Oman and abroad in multidisciplinary research.
  • Ensuring adequate knowledge transfer, e.g., through scholarly publications.
  • Promoting the values of the University, especially multicultural awareness and ethical practices.
  • Performing other tasks assigned by the University and as required.

 

Qualifications

Candidates for this position must demonstrate their compliance with the following requirements:

  • Hold a PhD degree or equivalent in Logistics.
  • Have strong research record as demonstrated by international publications.
  • Possess appropriate academic professional qualifications.
  • Teaching and industry experience in the relevant discipline is an asset.
  • Demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching undergraduate courses and experience in teaching postgraduate courses and supervising thesis.
  • Experience in developing course curricula according to accreditation and international standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented multi-cultural environment.

Our Offer

GUtech offers an international and dynamic environment with an extensive research network provided by RWTH Aachen University. The appointment is initially for two years and renewable, dependent on positive performance reviews. The salary is internationally competitive. Offers are subject to receiving Omani teaching and labour permits, which will be arranged by the University. Other non-financial benefits such as Air Tickets, Private Health Insurance, Children Education Allowance may be provided if applicable based on the university rules.
