The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) was established in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University in 2007 in Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman. The vision of the German University of Technology in Oman is to become a leading university of technology in the wider region by building on the three pillars of education, research and innovation. Through its affiliation with RWTH Aachen University, the German University of Technology in Oman provides students with the education required to become highly qualified and socially responsible graduates, guided by German excellence and with a firm grounding in Oman’s culture and heritage. GUtech’s programmes of study are accredited by the German agency ACQUIN, and the University has recently undergone a successful evaluation by the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD. GUtech faculty also engage in local research projects, often in cooperation with RWTH Aachen University and other universities abroad.

The Department of Engineering at GUtech currently offers Bachelor of Engineering programmes in Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering. The Department of Engineering is looking to appoint qualified candidates who can contribute to the development of its teaching and research programmes and invites applications for faculty positions at the ranks of:

 

Lecturer / Assistant lecturer in Mechanical Engineering

  1. Requirements and Competencies

Candidates for these positions should hold a PhD degree or equivalent and should have strong research potential or a record of scholarship as demonstrated by international publications, presentations at peer reviewed conferences, or externally funded projects. We also expect teaching experience at the undergraduate level and the willingness to continuously improve own teaching skills. Candidates are expected to have a minimum of three years experiences with teaching and thesis supervision.

The potential employee will contribute towards the coordination of the University’s Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Programmes, demonstrate excellence in teaching, and add to the University’s research in engineering.

Applicants should have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills as well as the ability to work in a team-oriented multi-cultural environment. The language of instruction at GUtech is English.

 

  1. Tasks and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach in the programmes of the department, ideally covering a broad range of topics. Therefore, the applicants who are interested in the mechanical engineering filed should be able to teach a wide range courses on the undergraduate level, complementing the fields of Mechanics, Mechatronics, CAD, Machine tools, Research Methods. The applicants must demonstrate their flexibility to work in different engineering labs e.g., Mechatronics Lab, Process Engineering Lab, and Mechanical workshop. Ability to teach Business engineering course and wind energy course is an advantage.

Candidates are also expected to contribute to the further development of the department’s teaching portfolio. The candidate will carry out original research and publish successfully in high-quality academic journals. Activities to attract externally funded applied projects that correspond to the needs of the region are welcome.

GUtech offers an international and dynamic environment with an extensive research network provided by RWTH Aachen University. The salary is internationally competitive. Offers are subject to receiving Omani teaching and labour permits, which will be arranged by the University. The successful candidates are expected to take up employment before March 2020. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a description of research interests, a statement of teaching experience, copies of relevant certificates, a selection of student evaluations of teaching (if available), and the names of at least three academic references.
