The Applied Geosciences Department at the German University of Technology in Oman is seeking a dedicated and innovative Assistant Professor in Hydrogeology to join our dynamic academic community. This position offers a unique opportunity for a motivated researcher and educator to contribute to our growing focus on water resources, geochemistry, and environmental sustainability.

The successful candidate will have a focus on Hydrogeology, ideally with a preference in Hydrogeochemistry. The ability to attract external funding, or clear promise thereof, is desirable. Candidates are expected to be excellent researchers as evidenced by their contribution to the advancement of research internationally.

Candidates need to demonstrate a record of teaching a wide range of courses on the undergraduate and postgraduate level, complementing the fields of Petroleum Geology, Sedimentology and Mineral Resources. A desire to undertake field teaching and research in a desert climate are also considered assets.

Tasks and responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this position include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses and contributing to the development of postgraduate courses at MSc-/PhD-level in close collaboration with professors at RWTH Aachen University in Germany. This includes also the teaching of basic chemistry courses for students from other programmes like Environmental Engineering. Candidates have to demonstrate leadership in research, administration, community service and consultancy. They are expected to develop their own externally funded research programmes within the Department’s strategy focusing on Hydrogeology or Geochemistry as well as improve their teaching skills to adapt to local needs and build a strong connection between research and industry.

GUtech offers an international and dynamic environment with an extensive research network provided by RWTH Aachen University. A committee comprising of RWTH and GUtech academic staff will select the successful applicants and nominate them for academic positions at GUtech. The employer will be the German University of Technology in Oman.

The appointment is initially for four years and renewable, dependent on positive performance reviews. The salary is internationally competitive. Offers are subject to receiving Omani teaching and labour permits, which will be arranged by the University. The successful candidate is expected to take up employment in February 2025.
