The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) was established in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University in 2007 in Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman. The Department of Engineering is seeking applications for the following position:

Assistant Professor/ Lecturer in Environmental Engineering to join as of 01.09.2019

  1. Requirements and Competencies

Applicants for the Assistant Professorship/ Lecturer positions must have a PhD degree or equivalent in related field. They should have demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate courses, and they should have a minimum of three years experiences with teaching and thesis supervision. Candidates are expected to be good researchers as evidenced by their contribution to the advancement of research internationally.

Applicants for the lecturer position should hold a PhD or equivalent in related field. They should have demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate courses. A minimum of three years of experience in teaching is required.

The potential employee will contribute towards the coordination of the University’s Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Programmes, demonstrate excellence in teaching, and add to the University’s research in engineering.

Applicants should have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work within a multi-cultural team environment. The language of instruction at GUtech is English.

  1. Tasks and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the assistant professor include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses and contributing to the development of postgraduate courses at MSc-/PhD-level in close collaboration with the professors at RWTH Aachen University. Candidates should be able to develop their own externally funded research programmes as well as improve their teaching skills to adapt to local needs.

Applicants for the process engineering vacancy should be able to teach a wide range of courses on the undergraduate level, complementing the fields of Chemical Process Engineering, Mechanical Process Engineering, CAD, Research Methods, Plant design, Principles of Engineering. Ability to teach Thermodynamics and Business engineering courses is an advantage.

Applicants for environmental engineering position should be able to teach a wide range of courses on the undergraduate level, complementing the fields of Pollution Control, Environmental Impact Assessment, Introduction to Environmental Engineering, Global changes and Sustainable Development, Environmental Law, Hydrology and Water Resources, and Renewable Energy.

The responsibilities of the lecturer include teaching undergraduate programming courses and assist in conducting lab modules of other courses.

The salary is internationally competitive. Offers are subject to receiving Omani teaching and labour permits, which will be arranged by the University. The successful candidates are expected to take up employment before October 2019.
