Contract Type: Research – Full time
Project Description:
Runoff Harvesting (RH) presents a viable solution to mitigate water scarcity in drought-prone regions, particularly in arid areas like Oman. This study aims to identify the most effective RH methods for Northern Oman to enhance water availability. By analyzing historical data from remote sensing (RS) and ground-based gauges, along with contemporary trends, the research seeks to understand flooding patterns in the region. Additionally, it evaluates various RH techniques, including surface runoff collection, retention ponds, and infiltration basins. By estimating the potential water volume from flood events and assessing technical feasibility, this study aims to determine the most suitable RH strategies for Northern Oman’s climatic and geomorphological conditions. Emphasizing stakeholder engagement, the research ensures alignment with local needs and priorities, facilitating the successful implementation of selected RH methods. Ultimately, this study contributes to sustainable water management in Northern Oman and offers insights applicable to other arid regions worldwide.
