  1. Requirements and Competencies

 

Candidates must have at least three years of experience with teaching and undergraduate thesis supervision. The successful candidate will have a focus on mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry of igneous and metamorphic rocks. We are looking for candidates with teaching experience, preferable in the Middle East. Candidates are expected to be excellent researchers as evidenced by their contribution to the advancement of research internationally.

Applicants need to demonstrate a record of teaching a wide range of courses on the undergraduate level, complementing the fields of Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry. A desire to undertake field teaching and research in a desert climate are also considered assets. As well as experience working in a multidisciplinary academic environment.

  1. Tasks and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include teaching undergraduate courses. Candidates holding a PhD are also expected to teach Master courses and have to demonstrate leadership in research, administration, and community service. They are expected to develop their own externally funded research programmes within the Department’s strategy focusing on the Geology of Oman as well as improve their teaching skills to adapt to local needs and build a strong connection between research and industry.

GUtech offers an international and dynamic environment with an extensive research network provided by RWTH Aachen University. A committee comprising of RWTH and GUtech academic staff will select the successful applicants and nominate them for academic positions at GUtech. The employer will be the German University of Technology in Oman.

The appointment is initially for two years and renewable, dependent on positive performance reviews. The salary is internationally competitive. Offers are subject to receiving Omani teaching and labour permits, which will be arranged by the University. The successful candidate is expected to take up employment in September 2022.
